North Star Boys – All Ages

North Star Boys (NSB) is a leading Asian-American creator group and pop band, founded in August 2021 by brothers Oliver Moy, and Sebastian Moy. Lacking Asian-American representation in the media growing up, NSB yearns to fill that void and inspire the younger generation of minorities and dreamers. Amassing over 55 million followers combined on social media platforms, NSB has cultivated a loyal audience. Their Fall 2022 tour is proof positive as they brought together thousands of fans, coined “Stars”, in North America and Asia.   NSB is kicking off a U.S. headline tour in March 2023 and will be debuting new music from their upcoming EP “PANIC”, featuring “Cold War”, co-produced by multi-platinum songwriters and musicians, Tim Pagnotta and Brian Phillips. The band has been hard at work honing their songwriting skills and fine-tuning their on-stage performances. The group is currently in collaboration with an array of producers and songwriters and plans to drop multiple EPs in 2023. Along with thriving in social media and music, NSB has accumulated over 20 million monthly views on their syndicated Snapchat shows and plans to release 4 additional shows on the platform this year. Through their strong ties with the community and emphasis on culture, NSB will continue to expand their reach across various verticals by advancing their ongoing relationships with major fashion and lifestyle brands such as Calvin Klein, American Eagle, and BoohooMAN.

Blue Cranes, Night Brunch, Patrick McCulley – 21+

Blue Cranes:  Portland jazz ensemble Blue Cranes has long established itself as a forward-thinking entity. The quintet, made up of Reed Wallsmith on alto saxophone, Joe Cunningham on tenor saxophone, Rebecca Sanborn on keyboards, Jon Shaw on bass, and Ji Tanzer on drums, is steeped in the history and sound of the artists that came before them, but too curious and creative to simply replicate the past.  Since their formation in 2007, the band has become a key player in the Portland, Oregon creative music/DIY scene and one of the most exciting groups to keep tabs on in the Northwest. They’ve developed a singular musical voice grounded in melody and explosive improvisations–marking off their unique microcosmic territory in post-jazz circles. https://bluecranes.bandcamp.com/music   Night Brunch: Night Brunch delivers piercing lyrics in dense vocal harmony over jangular guitar and timeless groovemath. New project of local stalwarts A. Walker Spring (Bitch’n, Point Juncture, WA), Sarah Fennell (Lost Lander), Pony, and Danny Aley.   Patrick McCulley: Patrick McCulley is a Portland based saxophonist, educator, composer, and creator that seeks to transform the saxophone from a purely melodic instrument into an undefinable and unstoppable force of nature.  McCulley’s solo compositions sculpt the saxophone’s sound into transcendent metaphors for emotions not often expressed in music: the inescapable vagaries of change, the ecstatic joy of flight, and the yearning search for renewal amidst destruction. His music utilizes an array of extended techniques to defy conventional musical idioms in favor of raw, provocative, honest, and unusual sounds without abandoning the listener to the chaos of pure noise. https://patrickmcculley.bandcamp.com/

Cruel Diagonals (album release), Crystal Quartez, (arsonist) – presented by Megalith – 21+

Since 2016, Los Angeles-based multimedia artist, Cruel Diagonals (aka Megan Mitchell), has been creating critically acclaimed experimental electronic music and intriguing visuals. Though classically trained as a vocalist and well-versed in jazz standards as a youth, Cruel Diagonals applies her brilliant voice to compositions and improvisations that are the antithesis of staid tradition or arid academic exercises. Rather, she optimizes her minimal gear setup with an instinctual adventurousness and an acute sense of the most chilling and moving atmospheres and timbres, favoring fluidity of tones over the grid-like modes of much electronic music. Cruel Diagonals augments these elements with exquisite vocalizations and field recording extracted from decrepit industrial sites and West Coast nature zones in order to reveal their expressive properties, thereby forging a unique sonic palette. Crystal Cortez is a sound, installation artist & programmer based out of Portland Oregon. They are also a professor of Creative Coding & Sonic Arts at Portland Community College. As someone who never saw themself represented in computer music or creative tech their work focuses on the empowerment of underserved populations gaining access and knowledge around technology. In 2019 they co founded whateverSpace, a maker space offering free and sliding scale workshops and technology rentals with priority going to the BIPOC community. Under their performance moniker Crystal Quartez they transforms field recordings, uses synthesis, audio programming, data sonification, and 3D sound spatialization to produce complex sonic realms. Their practice has recently involved the development of interactive sculptural interfaces and wearable technology that monitor movement and other corporeal methods to liberate the performer from their interfaces. Their art has been shown at NIME, La MaMa NYC, PNCA, Disjecta, PICA, Navel (LA), On the Boards (Seattle) and more.Pittsburgh’s digital collagist {arsonist} unbraids time and decolorizes nature on her debut album Reality Structure. Overpowering blasts of electronic percussion offset lush synthetic beauty on six tracks of perfectly balanced battle between chaos and understanding. The album title plays on the name of a mathematical vector that divides a unit into real and imaginary subspaces. Throughout these pieces, {arsonist} explores subspaces of dreamlike reality and realistic dream states, with alien synth sounds and organic strings cautiously tugging the songs in different, bizarre directions. Otherworldly in a way where you can hear the process of a new world being constructed and decomposing in real time.
