Hopeton Overton Brown is a recording engineer and producer who rose to fame in the 1980s mixing dub music as “Scientist”. A protégé of King Tubby (Osbourne Ruddock), Scientist’s contemporaries include several figures who, working at King Tubby’s studio, had helped pioneer the genre in the 1970s: Ruddock, Bunny Lee, Philip Smart, Pat Kelly and Prince Jammy.

The Miami-raised YUNGMORPHEUS has spent the past few years building a rap catalog that is staggering in its volume and eclecticism. While many may mistake him for a native of the L.A. and NYC scenes in which he’s worked, YUNGMORPHEUS is undoubtedly influenced by his Florida roots. He delivers his lyrics with a vocal style that’s both cold and suave, and on From Whence It Came, he’s chronicling everyday tales of making it by any means necessary, complete with the potential consequences.

His most recent, Waking Up And Choosing Violence, is the record that deserves to push his career to the next level. Galvanized by Spit’s beats, the artist and former sociology student has never sounded more relatable or self-assured. In the past, his naturally relaxed flow suggested someone having an epiphany while lounging in a hammock, but this time around, he’s not larking around so much. He’s in a power stance, standing tall, and brutally honest.
